Stephen Edwin King (born September 21, 1947) is an American author of horror, supernatural fiction, suspense, science fiction, and fantasy. As of 2011 , King has written and published 49 novels; including seven under the pen name Richard Bachman.

King sold his first novel, Carrie, in 1973, about a tormented teen seeking revenge on her peers. Following its publication, the book became an immediate success, enabling him to dedicate himself to writing full time. 'The Shining,' his next book, became his first best-seller.

Now success don't come overnight. Stephen King once said, "Read and write four to six hours a day, if you cannot find the time for that, you will not become a good writer." He himself used to set a daily quota of 2000 words and does not stop until he meets it. The fact that 350 million copies of his books have been sold is a testament to his hard work. Many of his books have been adapted into films, like Carrie, The Shawshank Redemption, It and many more

9. If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot. There's no way around these two things that I'm aware of, no shortcut.
